I’ve been wondering how to start this blog, and decided to stop wondering and start typing…

Last week, I left my life behind me to come back home to Kansas. I left a Youth Desk, a National Center, a House of Worship, a bustling city of millions, a Happy Grocery, a Metropolis Coffee, a Left of Center Bookstore, a Sam’s Chicken and Ribs, an Art Institute of Chicago, a Lakeshore Drive, a Lake Michigan, an “L”, a Chase Cafe, a Dark Falcor, a crappy Thai restaurant, a (slash) doorman, and so much more that I can’t remember right off hand.

Oh yeah. I also left what I’m sure are the best friends that I’ve ever had. What can be said about the ties that were woven during the past eleven and a half months? I certainly don’t know. People have been asking me for weeks, “How does it feel to be leaving?” or “How does it feel to be back?”. I haven’t really been able to muster anything except for a half-hearted “Gee…you know. Well…it’s really hard! I…er…it’s really sad.” Yeah. It’s such a cliche, isn’t it? You don’t realize what you’ve got till it’s gone. Heh.

I moved into my new place in Lawrence, (aka L-town) Kansas. It’s a one bedroom apartment on a road called “Ousdahl”. Wonderfully, it’s about three times the size of my Chicago place but less than half the price. The downside is that I don’t have a front door. Only a sliding glass window. Hmmm….

There will be more to come. That much you can depend on. And finally, leave comments, fool! That’s how I know you love me!

-Andrew

I think I’m going to love your blog. Welcome to the world of complete and total doom - there’s no way out!

See, the good thing about a blog is that you don’t have to worry about location and what you may be missing elsewhere. It’s all right here on the interweb!

lacey wrote that on Aug 11 04 at 7:15 am

AHA! AAAAAAAHA! Aha. ha. hahHA! ha?

I know that feeling. You cant say anything deep for a month after your year of service. “It was, yeah it was really great!” You say, sounding half hearted cus you’re just sad you’re not there anymore…
It gets better dont worry.

yipes, you linked me! I’d better step up my game!

Andrew! Great to see you across the miles. Dude - where were you eating that sushi??

Raina wrote that on Aug 11 04 at 2:50 pm

You are so, so right, Shannon. And hey, if you’d rather me not link to your site, just let me know. It’s just that some of my favorite posts of all blogdom have been on your site…just wanting to share the joy with others, you know?

And Raina-How’s it going? The sushi was in Stamford “Sushi Capitol of the World”,Connecticut. Me, Richard, Lacey and Delara went there during the famed NEBY-Fest in February.

ack! I wanted to be the first commenter! ah well…

Somehow I can’t come up with anything profound to say. hmph. I’m trying to cut down on the “I miss Andrew!” whining that is in my head and focus on the important things in life…like the spaghetti currently simmering on the stove.

I, like mojan, will enjoy reading this immmensely. there are already high expectations…better live up to them. ;-)

High expectations? *nervously looks around* Oh gee..I’ll try my best.

Andrew! Whaddup! I’m also here to corroborate the above… first off what Lacey said about what you are missing elsewhere being right here on the interweb… I get my daily dose of Chicago missing via about half a dozen blogs and a few more livejournals. I may not be there for months now but theres pictures, thoughts and updates that span the miles ridiculously well. I was blessed the lovely Lay-C made sure to hook me up with that before I left. :) Second off … I too am happy to have stumbled upon this. Keep Rockin, though I know all too well that first month after service as well when your thoughts are consumed by nothing but what you just came from.

Andrew,

Let me surf in briefly from my blogging hiatus to say “Why did I have a feeling this was going to happen?”

much love, Jay

welcome, welcome, welcome. mojan speaks the truth. there is no way out. no way out.

hey, so i remember a conversation in which we decided someone ought to take on the role of blog leach and post lengthy personal messages in response to other people’s blogs. i have decided that i will be that person. Hooray that i have Andropolis to guide me!
So i was reading Shannon’s blog and i found myself especially excited at the parts that i already knew about (ie the parts of Shannon’s life that involve me) like his moment of macho at the aquarium. Likewise, i found myself particularly hurt that YOU FORGOT I HAD SUSHI WITH YOU, YOU $%&*ING PUNK. So, even when i am reading about other people’s lives, it comes down to “it’s all about me”. After all, i wouldn’t really care what your blog said if i didn’t know you and love you, now would i? i realize this may be my own personal demon, but isuspect that others, if they are honest with themselves, will find that they are most delighted when a part of life they shared is important enough to someone that they want to share it with everyone else.
Normally, i would never have let such a thing be known, but i have recently grown very very very tired of putting up a ‘good person’ front. This has been the first step in my liberation and i thank you for facilitating. Everyone out there with blogs - look out. i’m on the prowl.

i love you, Andrew, even though you don’t care enough about me to remember sushi. That’s find. i’ll write about the real hurt i feel on someone else’s blog. Someone who cares…

Also, i talked to your mom on IM the other day. i like her. She said “see ya, girl” which i thought was exceedingly hip and cool. Your mom is a hip, hip lady.

Wha?
I was just on my way over to parasitic blog this place in response to andrew’s latching upon my own (you forgot to sign your name, man!), when lo and behold, theres already a parasite attached! See this is how memes start. Watch Wired News to see if they mention parasitic blogging as a trend in the next few months. We’ll know its all cus of us. hehehe.

i have a comment for greg, who apparently doesn’t have a blog. but since leaching appears to be all the rage here — or at least admissable — can i just say, greg for some reason my heart is overwhelmingly filled with pride for you and the other young Minnesota men who make up the high tech legion? who knew y’all had talent, drive AND entrepreneurship. okay, the talent and the drive, that goes without saying. you ARE minnesotans. however, the entrepreneurship — nice, very nice.

kari wrote that on Aug 18 04 at 8:01 pm

it is true, I don’t have a blog. I have a nab!!
