How does this happen?

A couple months ago, I did something I’d never done before, and took some money out of the ATM at school. I bought whatever it was that I needed to buy, and went home. Whereupon I discovered that I’d left my ATM card inside the machine, where it was most likely gobbled up, and was certainly never seen again. The situation forced me to go through a bunch of bank rigamarole, with phone calls and requests and pleas for new cards and whatnot. It was quite annoying. A situation I’d never been in before, and was not keen on repeating.

However.

Today I used the same ATM, for the second time in my life. And had the same thing happen, for the second time in my life. It’s profoundly annoying on the one hand, but also somewhat amusing. But only somewhat. Oh, greedy ATM. Oh, careless me.

Oh, don’t feel too bad…I’ve done that about 10 times. Besides, you have an excuse to be absent-minded…you’re getting married! :-)

I don’t understand why the US doesn’t use the ATMs where you just “swipe” your card like they have here in Brazil. It’s impossible to leave your card inside because it never is inside.

Funny story, though…;-) I’d recommend never using that particular ATM again…
